12 researchers join inaugural IHPI policy and communications training program to maximize research impact
IHPI's new program, launching in May, will train faculty members on strategies for broadening the reach of their research.
Twelve U-M faculty researchers will be the first to participate in IHPI's new Impact Accelerator Policy and Communications Training Program this May, to learn strategies for effectively communicating and maximizing the impact of their research.
The Impact Accelerator Program will train IHPI members to navigate today’s policy and communications landscape and frame, translate, and disseminate research findings for media and policy audiences. Drawing upon the expertise of the Institute’s Communications and Policy Engagement and External Relations teams, experienced faculty members, and other industry experts, the program will cover a wide range of topics, including developing talking points, identifying key audiences, best practices for writing a policy brief or an op-ed, sharing expertise with reporters, and meeting with policymakers.
Program participants will develop skills to help bridge the gap between research and engagement with external stakeholders through interactive skill-building sessions, practical policy and communications activities, and a faculty expert panel to learn how other researchers have engaged firsthand with policymakers and the media.
The 12 faculty members comprising the program’s first cohort have a wide variety of health services research interests and represent the Medical School, School of Public Health, School of Kinesiology, School of Nursing, and College of Pharmacy. They will participate in the program from May 16-18.
