Dr. Creary’s research examines national policies for or including sickle cell disease (SCD) through a health equity lens and using historical and ethnographic methods. More specifically, she investigates how SCD policies are influenced by race and analyzes how inclusion and knowledge production in public health and biomedicine are at odds with structural barriers. Over a nine-year career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Blood Disorders, Creary helped create and lead the first national program and data collection system for sickle cell disease.
