Dr. Polverini is a dentist by training whose specialization is oral pathology. His health policy interests include exploring the potential of innovative care models (including collaborative care) for increasing access to care for underserved patients, reducing healthcare costs, improving the effectiveness of healthcare delivery, and decreasing the burden of dental disease in children and older adults. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine.
