Dr. Valenstein has worked extensively in assessing the quality of mental health care for patients with depression and serious mental illness. She has also been instrumental in implementing innovative programs to improve the care of patients with depression and other mental health disorders within healthcare systems, and implementing innovative approaches to identifying and connecting individuals with need to appropriate treatment resources. Her funded projects have focused on the quality of care for depression, supporting depression treatment in primary care, medication adherence, interventions to improve adherence, suicide among Veterans, and peer support for depression and linkage to services.
