The University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) is pleased to offer U-M alumni an open learner version of its “Understanding and Improving the U.S. Healthcare System” online course.
Since its development in 2016, over 3,000 U-M learners have participated in this five-module course which draws upon the expertise of over 20 IHPI faculty members. A series of video-based lectures introduces learners to the main topics related to the historically complex U.S. healthcare system, including:
- The Main Players in Healthcare
- U.S. Presidents and the History of U.S. Healthcare Reform
- Private and Public Payers in the U.S. Healthcare System
- Designing Benefits in a Health Plan Choosing Healthplans All Together (CHAT®) Simulation
- Evaluation of the “Healthy Michigan Plan”: An Example of Medicaid Expansion
The course will be open from October 1 to December 15, 2021. Alumni interested in taking the course will be placed in a special “section” of the U-M Canvas learning platform with full access to all course materials and will not be required to complete individual or group assignments. The content takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete, so learners can immerse or pace themselves, as best fits their learning and life.
