"More research is required to understand the root causes of disparities in the use of preventive services, patient acceptance of preventive recommendations, and how barriers can be addressed through provider and community interventions.
IHPI Director John Ayanian, M.D., M.P.P., and Tiffany Veinot, Ph.D., associate professor of information, recently spoke on this topic at an NIH Pathways to Prevention (P2P) Workshop on Achieving Health Equity in Preventive Services. The workshop assessed the available scientific evidence on achieving health equity in the use of clinical preventive services in a health care setting, focusing on three leading causes of death in the United States: cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
