Health care and health policy researchers have many options when it comes to sharing their expertise with policymakers and the public.
One key route: opinion, commentary and 'explainer' pieces published in outlets ranging from news media websites to the opinion sections of academic journals. These persuasive or informative pieces can help bring new data, and previously published findings, to new audiences in order to inform personal health, clinical practice or health policy decisions.
This workshop will explain how to formulate your idea and crystallize your key points, how to pick an outlet to pitch your idea or piece to, how to structure your piece and how to share a published piece once it's out.
Kara Gavin, M.S., IHPI's Research & Policy Media Relations Manager, will lead off with a presentation, then take questions, followed by an optional 30 minutes when individual IHPI members can describe their specific ideas for potential pieces, or discuss a current draft, and get feedback from those who choose to remain in the session.
Lunch will be provided.
Note: This opportunity is only open to members of IHPI or their staff designee.
