12 researchers to join IHPI training program to amplify media, policy reach
IHPI's annual Impact Accelerator program aims to equip faculty researchers with skills to broaden the reach of their work beyond academia.

Twelve U-M faculty researchers will participate in the Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation’s third annual Impact Accelerator Policy and Communications Training Program this May, to learn strategies for effectively communicating and maximizing the impact of their research.
Launched in 2023, the Impact Accelerator Program trains IHPI members to navigate today’s policy and communications landscape and frame, translate, and disseminate research findings for media and policy audiences. Drawing upon the expertise of the Institute’s Communications and Policy Engagement and External Relations teams, experienced faculty members, and other industry experts, the program covers a wide range of topics, including identifying key audiences, writing an effective policy brief and op-ed, sharing expertise with reporters, and best practices for meeting with policymakers.
Program participants will develop skills to bridge the gap between research and engagement with external stakeholders through interactive skill-building sessions, practical policy and communications activities, and a faculty expert panel exploring how other researchers have successfully engaged with policymakers and the media.
The 12 faculty members comprising the program’s third cohort have a wide variety of health services research interests and represent the Medical School, School of Public Health, School of Social Work, College of Pharmacy, and Institute for Social Research. They will participate in the program from May 20-22, 2025.
