Dr. Bernstein’s health services research expertise includes the appropriate use of medical technology, quality of care, outcomes, and doctor-patient decision-making. He also focuses his efforts on patient safety, performance improvement, clinical quality, and quality analytics as Chief Quality Officer (CQO) of the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS), and also focuses on improving quality of care received by UMHS patients as director of the Faculty Group Practice Quality Management Program, which is responsible for measuring and improving institutional compliance with outpatient quality standards and developing chronic disease registries. He also directs UMHS participation in the Physician Group Incentive Program sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Quality Improvement activities related to the CMS Pioneer ACO project, and the MiChart (EPIC) Population Management Workgroup.
