A serious illness is not just physical, but has emotional, spiritual, and cultural aspects. To care for a patient with a serious illness requires an interprofessional team to attend to these aspects of illness. When done well, a time of grief can be suffused with meaning which a family can carry with them.
Immense. A serious illness does not just affect an individual, it also affects their family and their community. By attending to this, we have the opportunity to engage in powerfully healing work.
