Zeoli receives 2024 public engagement award
University of Michigan April Zeoli, Ph.d., M.P.H., associate professor of public health, and Monica Dus have made far-reaching impacts through their work in firearm safety and supporting the U.S. Navy on science and education, respectively, and are recipients of the 2024 presidential awards for public engagement. The awards recognize the recipients' demonstrated commitment to public service, contributions to significantly impact society through national and state leadership, and efforts to address the challenges communities face every day. Jones among seven inducted into National Academies of Practice
Lenette Jones, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor of nursing, was among seven U-M faculty inducted into the National Academies of Practice as Distinguished Fellows during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. This year also marked a significant milestone with the launch of NAP’s 17th academy — the Public Health Academy. READ MORE
Chua named Director of the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center
Kao-Ping Chua, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pediatrics, was appointed director of the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center effective April 15, 2025. He replaces Interim Director Jeremy Adler, M.D., M.Sc., clinical professor of pediatrics, who was serving in the role since July 2023.
Chua’s NIH-funded research focuses on slowing the U.S. opioid epidemic, improving the affordability of health care, reducing the use of low-value care, and identifying emerging trends in pediatric health care utilization. His studies have been published in journals such as NEJM, JAMA, BMJ, JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Pediatrics, and Pediatrics, and have been covered by national media outlets such as The New York Times, CNN, and NPR.
James named 2025 Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Scholar
Cornelius James, M.D., FACP, assistant professor of internal medicine, was selected as a Macy Faculty Scholar. The program aims to develop the next generation of national leaders in medical and nursing education and only selects five Scholars each year. James's career focuses on empowering clinicians to integrate digital health technologies, including AI, into their practice to augment decision-making and improve patient outcomes. READ MORE
Norton receives ASHEcon award
Edward Norton, Ph.D., professor of public health, received The Willard G. Manning Memorial Award for the Best Research in Health Econometrics from the American Society of Health Economists (ASHEcon). The awards honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of health economics. READ MORE
Bauer selected to receive inaugural U-M SPH public engagement award
Kate Bauer, Ph.D. M.S., associate professor of public health, was selected to receive the inaugural University of Michigan School of Public Health's Excellence in Public Engagement Award. The award is designed to recognize outstanding and impactful public engagement activity from tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. READ MORE
