Dr. Peterson's research focuses on disentangling the interactions of toxicants in food, air and water with healthy lifestyle behaviors, e.g., diet and physical activity, and their downstream effects on cardiometabolic health across the life course in vulnerable populations. Dr. Peterson's cross-disciplinary, cross-national research program has informed health policy on lead and water in Latin America. Her work also seeks to develop novel approaches to reducing obesity and chronic disease risk in children and youth, informed epidemiologic and electronic medical record data.
