Dr. Bahl's work encompasses several areas of health services research, practice, and policy: development of creative and innovative methods of measuring the cost, quality of care and patient safety; public health policy, including alternative payment models and pay-for-performance programs; clinical decision support systems for inpatient and ambulatory care, including the design of interactive systems to improve evidence-based practice and clinical outcomes; care transitions, including research on causes of patient readmissions and the development of tools to improve transition of patients from acute to post-acute care settings; and the impact of complex case mix on clinical and financial outcomes for academic medical centers.
