Dr. Hayward’s research examines measurement of quality, costs, and health status, environmental and educational factors affecting physician practice patterns, quality improvement, and physician decision-making. His work also focuses on quality measurement and improvement for chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, the use of data from clinical trials to inform clinical practice guidelines, and ways to improve healthcare quality and efficiency through the use of more sophisticated performance measures and market incentives.
