Dr. Powell's research focuses on understanding the impact of psychosocial stressors (e.g. loneliness), chronic pain, and opioid use on physical and mental functioning in older adults and people with serious illness. Her work also investigates treatment and healthcare utilization patterns in Veterans with chronic pain receiving long-term opioid treatment. Dr. Powell is also interested in clinical trial design for people with chronic pain.
