Dr. Piatt is formally trained as a chronic disease epidemiologist, with specific training and expertise in designing and evaluating efforts aimed at improving health systems and health care delivery for people with chronic illness in addition to being trained in implementation and dissemination science. Her research focuses on understanding the behavioral and psychosocial aspects of chronic illness self-management and support, and developing and implementing chronic illness prevention and self-management treatment interventions in the community and primary care settings. Dr. Piatt leads research teams that design and evaluate interventions in the primary and secondary prevention of diabetes and its complications, including implementation of evidence-based interventions that utilize self-management support for people with diabetes and obesity. All of Dr. Piatt's work is based in underserved communities, federally qualified health centers, and primary care.
