Dr. Hemmila’s research focuses on comparative effectiveness evaluation of care provided for trauma and acute care surgery. He serves as the Medical Director for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield-sponsored Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP) and the Michigan Acute Care Surgery (MACS) collaborative, both Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs). He also provides expertise for the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Michigan Statewide Trauma System, the U-M International Center for Automotive Medicine (ICAM), and the Max Harry Weil Institute for Critical Care Research & Innovation. Dr. Hemmila also serves as the medical director of Adult Trauma and as the associate chief medical information officer for the Department of Surgery at U-M Health.
