Dr. McGee's research interests include surgical quality improvement, implementation science, and patient education. His research involves design, implementation, and scientific analysis of large-scale surgical quality improvement projects focusing on perioperative care optimization, through which he seeks to understand patient, surgeon, and institutional factors that impact implementation fidelity across diverse hospital networks. As faculty and later co-director of the 50+ hospital Illinois Surgical Quality Improvement Collaborative, Dr. McGee oversaw two statewide quality improvement programs focusing on reducing surgical site infections and implementing a multi-faceted “prehabilitation” program for colorectal surgery patients.
