Dr. Smith's mission is to improve the pain experience of vulnerable populations, such as older adults and cancer survivors, by ensuring all patients receive the right treatment at the right time. He views this mission through his deep experience as a clinical pharmacist, researcher, and educator. His goal is to better the lives of patients with pain, particularly centralized pain, through the appropriate use of medications (opioids and non-opioids), and developing clinical decision support systems for patients and physicians to support their journey. In addition to Dr. Smith's U-M appointment, he is a Research Health Scientist in the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center of the LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
