Dr. Kocher is an emergency physician and health services and outcomes researcher who studies the delivery and performance of emergency and acute care. His research has focused on resource utilization, variation, and delivery system influences on the cost and quality of emergency care. Other research explores the changing function and role of the emergency department within the U.S. healthcare system, as well as the dynamics underlying the decision of admission versus discharge for patients seen in emergency departments. Dr. Kocher also serves as the Director of the Michigan Emergency Department Improvement Collaborative (MEDIC), a statewide collaborative quality initiative sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan/Blue Care Network designed to advance the performance of emergency care.
