Dr. Gamarel’s program of research focuses on working toward eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity for sexual and gender minority youth, couples, families, and communities. She has a particular interest in documenting and understanding health inequities in the context of HIV prevention and substance use, and is involved in work to improve the provision of expedited partner therapy (EPT) and increase the use of biomedical and behavioral HIV prevention strategies among sexual and gender minority communities. Dr. Gamarel’s research also focuses on integrating substance use programs within healthcare settings, such as creating culturally responsive and sustainable models for delivering alcohol and smoking cessation programs.
