Dr. Hanauer uses his background in medical informatics and clinical experience as a pediatrician to address existing and emerging systems-level problems in healthcare. One of his major projects is the creation and maintenance of a medical record search engine for clinical documents known as EMERSE (Electronic Medical Record Search Engine). His health services research also includes a public survey related to online physician ratings, as well as the development of a text messaging reminder system to support adolescent diabetes management.
