Dr. Telem’s health services research interests lie in the development and implementation of innovative approaches to answer ongoing clinical questions related to quality and outcomes, particularly within minimal access and bariatric surgery. Her work includes projects related to developing e-applications for clinical decision support and patient engagement, and developing novel hospital readmission reduction strategies following minimally invasive surgery that account for social determinants of health. While at Stony Brook University Medical Center, Dr. Telem founded and served as director of the Surgical Outcomes Analysis and Research (SOAR) Collaborative, whose mission is to identify current and relevant multi-disciplinary healthcare issues and develop methodology for intervention and prevention as well as cost assessment.
