Dr. Ayanian is the Director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) and the Alice Hamilton Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Healthcare Policy. His work focuses on health policy and health services research related to access to care, quality of care, and healthcare disparities related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic factors, and insurance coverage for major conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. He has served in key health policy advisory roles to state and federal government. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a Master of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Ayanian chairs the IHPI Institute Leadership Team (ILT). He also serves as the founding Editor in Chief of JAMA Health Forum.
