Stroke treatment and outcomes

Dr. Pandey is a cerebral vascular neurosurgeon whose research interests are focused on developing and improving tools to assist in the fight against stroke and brain aneurysms. He is involved in analyses of large patient databases to better understand factors that can lead to improved clinical outcomes in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, including ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke; these studies include evaluating volume-outcome relationships in managing ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. Dr. Pandey has also participated in numerous national research trials aimed at improving techniques of aneurysm treatment.

Why is this interesting to you?

I treat patients with cerebrovascular diseases (strokes, aneurysms, AVMs, carotid stenosis, etc.) and am also involved in research towards designing better treatment tools and strategies. Understanding the optimal care system is essential within the cerebrovascular diseases, as there is a national push to provide such care within the local community.

What are the practical implications for healthcare?

We must understand that cerebrovascular diseases encompass hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, and thus should consider if the delivery of care for both diseases within the local community is beneficial to patients, or if it is potentially leading to worsening outcomes.
