Interested in joining a community dedicated to making better medical decisions? The Annual Meeting of the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) is coming to Ann Arbor. Sessions will be held Sunday, June 15 to Wednesday, June 18 in the Michigan Union.
Join us for cutting-edge discussions of how medical decision making research can inform and improve clinical practice. Sessions will cover topics such as patient-provider shared decision making, medical cost-effectiveness analysis, health economics methods, elicitation of patient preference and values, and all types of decision analytic modeling. Plus, this year’s theme is “Principled Practice: Integrating Ethics into Medical Decision Making.”
Highlights of the meeting include:
- 2 ¼ days of scientific presentations (Sunday evening: opening reception / poster session; Monday / Tuesday: all day oral presentations and poster sessions)
- PLUS a special half-day of clinician crosstalk sessions on Wednesday (see below)
- Incredible career development activities
- Short courses on a variety of MDM topics on Sunday before the start of the conference
- Monday evening social event at the Michigan Stadium, complete with run on the field if you wish!

Interested in medical decision making but can’t make it to the whole SMDM conference? Good news! SMDM is hosting 4 special Clinician Crosstalk Sessions from 8:30am-12pm on Wednesday, June 18! These interactive panel sessions, plus a brief poster session, seek to build connections between practicing clinicians of all types and decision-making experts.

- Bridging Decision Science & Clinical Guidelines for Better Patient Care
- “A doctor, patient, and guideline committee walk into an exam room…”: On the interplay between evidence-based medicine, guidelines, and shared decision making
