Thomas Valley, M.D., M.Sc., has been named Lead Faculty Advisor of IHPI’s Data & Methods Hub (DMH), effective February 1. In this role, he will provide strategic guidance for the DMH team and advocate for IHPI’s needs in Medical School and University-wide computing planning efforts. He will also serve as a liaison between the DMH team and IHPI’s diverse faculty membership and assist with initiating impactful research partnerships.
Valley is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and a Research Investigator in the VA Center for Clinical Management Research. He came to Ann Arbor for fellowship in 2013 and stayed on as faculty afterward. During his fellowship, he earned a Master of Health and Healthcare Research through IHPI’s National Clinician Scholars Program. Valley's research seeks to improve the delivery of intensive care, particularly within rural and minoritized communities. For this research, he has used a mix of secondary data, including MedPAR, the National Inpatient Sample, the Premier database, and the Health and Retirement Study.
