Diane M. Harper and Peter Song among 15 U-M faculty elected this year by world’s largest general scientific society
Two IHPI members are among the 15 University of Michigan faculty members who earned election to the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2025, and were announced March 26.
The AAAS, the world’s largest general scientific society, announced 449 members of the 2025 class, elected for their “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.”
Diane M. Harper, professor of family medicine and obstetrics & gynecology in the Medical School, and of women’s and gender studies in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, was elected for distinguished contributions to the field of cancer prevention, particularly for guiding successful prophylactic and therapeutic human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine development for cervical cancer prevention in primary care and underserved settings. She is believed to be the first family physician elected a fellow of AAAS.
Peter Song, professor of biostatistics in the School of Public Health, was elected for distinguished contributions to the field of methodological, theoretical and applied statistics and data science, particularly for complex data in medical and public health sciences.
