Dr. Gregory will discuss patterns of Medicaid enrollment during early adulthood for individuals who go on to have Medicaid-insured births, and patterns of early adult Medicaid enrollment for youth aging out of pediatric Medicaid eligibility. The goal of this work is to understand the role of early adult Medicaid in birth outcomes in the current context of increasing chronic diseases during early adulthood. Rather than conceptualizing Medicaid as a program that provides health insurance to distinct categories of people, this work considers Medicaid as a recurrent provider of insurance across various stages of the life course.
