Cancer Surveillance & Outcomes Research Team (CanSORT)
Quality of cancer care across the continuum of care.
An interdisciplinary group of investigators based at the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor VA Center for Clinical Management Research studying the quality of cancer care across the continuum of care from prevention to survivorship.
CanSORT investigators are interested in various dimensions of cancer quality of care in diverse populations. They study topics such as appropriate use of treatments; patient perspectives about treatment decision-making and care; the quality of diagnostic tests; and quality of life during treatment and in the survivorship period.
A major focus of CanSORT research is on disparities in these outcomes across vulnerable populations defined by race, ethnicity, and sociodemographics. CanSORT research also focuses on provider and system level factors that influence patient outcomes such as use of interdisciplinary treatment decision models.
CanSORT research has advanced population-based cancer quality of care and outcomes research methods through an extremely productive collaboration between investigators and the NIH Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) registries located in the metropolitan areas of Los Angeles, Detroit, and the state of Georgia.
