How physical space shapes who and what we are.
We inhabit space, and every living minute of our lives is spent in physical space, be it built or natural. Yet the ways in which the physical environment impacts us in so many different ways -- collaboration, health, relationships, etc.-- is not given the research consideration I think it deserves.
For starters, where we are in physical space determines our exposures, including to things that are harmful to us, such as pollutants. Our physical location also determines the type of healthcare we access, including health practices, concentrations of general physicians and specialists, etc. Lastly, physical space even shapes our social networks, which have a significant impact on our health.
