Payal K. Patel was appointed to serve on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria.
Payal K. Patel, MD MPH FIDSA, assistant professor of infectious diseases and medical director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System, was appointed to serve a four-year term as a member of the U.s. Department of Health and Human Services Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria.
The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria represents a serious threat to public health and the economy. Detecting, preventing, and controlling antibiotic resistance requires a strategic, coordinated, and sustained effort. The council provides advice, information, and recommendations to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding programs and policies intended to support and evaluate the implementation of U.S. government activities related to combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
