The Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) is highly committed to supporting the health services and policy research of its 670+ faculty members. Over the past 10 years, the Institute has developed a broad set of core services to facilitate and accelerate the production of credible evidence with the greatest potential for improving health and healthcare delivery.
The IHPI Data & Methods Hub (DMH) is one of these valuable service units with a focus on providing analytic consults, access to unique sources of data, computing infrastructure, analytic partnerships, and more.
The Data & Methods Hub aims to enhance the ability of our members to make new and impactful insights about healthcare by

acquiring and distributing high-value datasets

facilitating partnerships among researchers from across the University
-
providing analytic support, methodological guidance, and education opportunities
-
partnering with relevant technical teams at the University to push research computing forward
To that end, the Institute is seeking the next Lead Faculty Advisor for the IHPI Data & Methods Hub to continue the current success of this team and provide input on the future direction of the DMH in collaboration with the IHPI Director, DMH Manager, and the Institute Leadership Team for up to 2 years .
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Senior faculty member at the Professor or Associate Professor level

Current member of IHPI
-
Demonstrated leadership skills and strengths in setting strategic priorities and guiding projects/programs/initiatives
-
A record of engagement and collaboration within the Institute and with colleagues across a range of schools/departments is highly desired
EXPECTED TIME COMMITMENT:
-
Negotiated faculty effort on an annual basis, estimated at 10%
-
Initial 1-year term; up to two (2) 1-year extensions may be offered by mutual agreement with the IHPI Director

Role as ex-officio member of the IHPI Institute Leadership Team (ILT), which typically meets as follows:

1.5 hour meetings approximately 8 times/year
-
2.5 hour retreat meetings twice/year

Attendance as available at the annual National Advisory Board meeting
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Provide ongoing strategic guidance to the Manager of the Data & Methods Hub (DMH) related to personnel, data acquisition, and research partnership development across the Institute.

Advocate for IHPI’s needs at Medical School and University-wide computing planning efforts.

Serve as a liaison between the DMH and IHPI’s diverse faculty membership and assist with initiating impactful research partnerships for the DMH team.

Support the continuation of current service offerings and the advancement of ongoing efforts to implement the long-term goals of the DMH through new data acquisitions and methods development.

Participate in bi-weekly meetings and be available for ad-hoc meetings with DMH staff and provide guidance (methodological, business/strategic, etc.) on topics presented by the staff.

Serve as an ex-officio member of the IHPI Leadership Team

Represent IHPI in interacting with faculty leaders of various UM initiatives related to data science or research methods, such as the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS), Advanced Research Computing (ARC), Consulting for Statistics, Computing and Analytics Research (CSCAR), the Precision Health Initiative, e-Health and Artificial Intelligence (e-HAIL), and the Family Medicine Mixed Methods Program.
