The Stamps Master of Design in Integrative Design (MDes) graduate program is unique with its combination of a focus on integrative design with collective, team-based, studio work along with collaboration across a broader community of professionals and stakeholders. The program emphasizes a dynamic mix of cross-disciplinary collaboration and problem-based inquiry. The program’s structure is project-based and student-centered, bringing together working teams of graduate design students and professionals to engage complex social problems that require development of new knowledge and integrative design solutions.
The first cohort of MDes students have been working for almost two years with the Integrated Michigan Patient-centered Alliance in Care Transitions (I-MPACT) - Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s first patient-focused Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). The students have been working with the I-MPACT coordinating center, clinicians, patients and caregivers to improve quality and reduce variation in care transition practices.
This presentation will give an overview of the MDes program to date. The graduating MDes students will present each of the projects from the I-MPACT collaboration. The second cohort of MDes students have been working with Patient & Family Centered Care at University of Michigan Health System. The incoming cohort will work with Michigan Program on Value Enhancement (MPrOVE) on Appropriate Care.
